New Employee Safety Orientation & Training Programs
A new hire’s first weeks are when they’re most likely to get hurt. They don’t know your site, your equipment, or your rules yet. The Safety Pro Group builds new employee safety orientation programs that get new hires jobsite-ready fast, with the right training on day one, assigned online courses, and records that prove it was done.

Why New Hire Safety Training Matters
New workers face a much higher risk of injury in their first month on the job than experienced employees. They’re learning unfamiliar tasks, often hesitate to ask questions, and may bring habits from previous employers that don’t match your procedures. A structured safety onboarding program:
Introduces essential safety concepts from day one
Sets expectations before bad habits form
Reduces early-tenure injuries and turnover
Documents required training for OSHA and your clients
What Our New Employee Safety Orientation Covers
We build orientation around your company, your sites, and your hazards. Typical topics include:
Company Safety Expectations
Your safety policy, rules, and disciplinary process. Stop-work authority. Who to go to with questions. Your drug-free workplace policy.
Hazard Recognition
The specific hazards of the job and site, how to spot them, and how they’re controlled.
Emergency Procedures
Evacuation routes, assembly points, fire extinguishers, first aid, and how to report an emergency.
Personal Protective Equipment
Which PPE is required for each task, and how to wear, inspect, and care for it.
Hazard Communication & Safety Data Sheets
Chemical labels, Safety Data Sheets, and where to find them.
Reporting Injuries & Near Misses
How and when to report, and why reporting is encouraged, not punished.

Use this checklist to make sure every new hire gets a complete orientation:
- Safety policy reviewed and acknowledged in writing

New Hire Orientation for Construction & Short-Service Employees
Construction crews change constantly, with new hires, temporary workers, and subcontractors arriving at every phase. We help contractors run a fast, consistent new hire orientation for construction sites, including site-specific orientations for each project. For utility and energy work, we can support short-service employee (SSE) programs that many clients require for workers with less than six months of experience. Many contractors also add OSHA 10-Hour training for new hires.
Safety Orientation for Ohio Employers
We provide safety orientation and new worker safety training for employers across Ohio, including Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Akron. Orientation is the first step of a complete safety training program. See all of our workplace safety services.
When should new employees receive safety training?
Before they start work, or before they’re exposed to a hazard. Many OSHA standards require training before an employee performs the task, such as hazard communication, PPE, and forklift operation.
How long should a safety orientation take?
A basic orientation usually takes one to four hours, plus job-specific training for each task. Higher-risk work needs more time and hands-on training before the employee works independently.
Do temporary workers need safety orientation?
Yes. OSHA expects both the staffing agency and the host employer to make sure temporary workers are trained. The host employer typically provides the site-specific training.
