Industries We Serve
Safety Programs for HVAC, Plumbing & Mechanical Contractors
HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors work in attics, crawl spaces, rooftops, basements, and active construction sites, often alone and often in someone else’s building. The Safety Pro Group builds HVAC safety programs and plumbing contractor safety programs for Ohio companies that protect technicians, satisfy customers and general contractors, and keep you compliant.

- Lifting and ergonomics when moving condensers, water heaters, and equipment
- Trenching and excavation for sewer and water line work

What We Provide for Mechanical Contractors
Every HVAC safety program we build starts with how your technicians actually work.
Written Programs Built for Service & Install Work
Written safety programs for ladder safety, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, hot work, hazard communication, and working alone, written for how service technicians actually work.
Training for Technicians & Install Crews
Safety training that technicians can complete online between calls, plus hands-on sessions for confined space, lockout/tagout, and fall protection. A fast new employee safety orientation gets new hires into the field safely.
Toolbox Talks for the Trades
Weekly toolbox talks on topics HVAC and plumbing crews face every week, from ladder setup to heat illness to trench safety.
Drug & Alcohol Programs
Technicians drive company vehicles and work in customers’ homes and businesses. A drug and alcohol testing program protects your customers, your crews, and your reputation.

Fleet & DOT Considerations
Many HVAC and plumbing companies run box trucks, service vans with trailers, or equipment haulers. Vehicles over 10,001 lbs in interstate commerce, and any that require a CDL, bring federal driver and testing rules. See DOT compliance. Federal pipeline (PHMSA) drug testing rules apply only to contractors performing covered functions for regulated pipeline operators, not to typical residential or commercial HVAC and plumbing service. Our drug testing regulations guide explains the difference.

What OSHA standards apply to HVAC contractors?
Depending on the work, HVAC contractors may fall under both general industry (29 CFR 1910) and construction (29 CFR 1926) standards, including ladders, fall protection, electrical, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, hot work, and hazard communication. EPA rules separately govern refrigerant handling and technician certification.
Do service technicians need confined space training?
If they enter spaces that meet OSHA’s definition of a confined space, such as some crawl spaces, vaults, or tanks, they need training on recognizing and controlling the hazards. Permit-required spaces need a written program and specific procedures.
How do we keep technicians safe when they work alone?
A working-alone policy, check-in procedures, job safety analyses for higher-risk tasks, and training on recognizing when to stop work all help.
