The Hazards That Matter Most on Construction Sites

OSHA’s “Focus Four” hazards cause most construction deaths:

Construction crew in hard hats on a jobsite

Falls

Falls from roofs, ladders, scaffolds, and leading edges.

Worker in a safety vest and white hard hat using a power tool

Struck-by

Struck-by incidents involving vehicles, equipment, and falling objects.

Crew working on a building under construction

Caught-in or caught-between

Caught-in or caught-between hazards, including trench collapses and rotating equipment.

Two construction workers in safety vests on site

Electrocution

Electrocution from overhead lines, temporary power, and damaged cords.

Add silica dust, noise, heat and cold stress, cranes and rigging, and confined spaces, and it’s clear why every construction company needs a real safety program, not just a binder.

What a Construction Safety Program Includes

Written Programs & Site-Specific Safety Plans

A company-wide safety manual plus a site-specific safety plan for each project: emergency procedures, hazards, controls, competent persons, and subcontractor expectations. We write both. See written safety programs.

Competent Person Inspections & Audits

OSHA requires frequent and regular jobsite inspections by a competent person (29 CFR 1926.20(b)(2)). Our jobsite safety audits add an independent set of eyes and hold supervisors and subcontractors accountable.

Training That Fits the Jobsite

OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 construction courses, fall protection, scaffold and ladder training, excavation, and silica, plus weekly toolbox talks that keep safety in front of crews every week.

Job Hazard Planning

Job safety analyses for high-risk tasks such as roofing, trenching, steel erection, and crane lifts.

Drug-Free Jobsites

Drug and alcohol programs that protect your crews and qualify you for public work under Ohio law through the SUPR Comparable Level.

Win More Work With a Strong Safety Record

General contractors and owners screen subcontractors by EMR, OSHA logs, written programs, and training records, often through prequalification platforms like ISNetworld and Avetta. A documented construction safety program helps you pass those reviews, keeps your EMR down, and makes you the sub GCs want on their sites.

Subcontractor Safety Management for General Contractors

A construction safety consultant can protect your whole site, not just your own crews. If you’re a GC, your subcontractors’ safety is your problem too. We help you set subcontractor safety requirements, review their programs and training, run site orientations, and audit their work practices on your projects.

Does OSHA require a written construction safety program?

OSHA’s construction standards require employers to initiate and maintain accident prevention programs (29 CFR 1926.20(b)), and several standards require specific written plans, such as a silica exposure control plan and, in some cases, a fall protection plan. Most GCs and owners also require a written program.

A plan written for a single project that identifies its hazards, controls, emergency procedures, competent persons, and contacts. Many owners and GCs require one before work starts.

Yes. We can provide ongoing safety management, site visits, and documentation as your outsourced safety director.
